STURGIS — The Dowagiac girls soccer team played to a 2-2 tie Wednesday at Sturgis.

Chloe Brewer and Johannah McDonald each scored a goal and Airreana Morse added an assist.

“We played a decent game today,” said Dowagiac coach Joseph Pasternak. “We started the first half playing our game moving the ball well and playing as a unit. In the second half, we kind of self-destructed and fell into their game playing too fast and too forward. We made some mistakes that they capitalized on and it really shifted the momentum of the game.

Pasternak was happy with the way his team battled in its second game of the season.

“Sturgis was a fast and physical team and we ran well with them,” he said. “We just need to learn how to win those close games. We had plenty of chances to finish the game and come away with a win. Overall, I’m happy with our play today but need to work on the mental part of the game and stop beating ourselves.”

Dowagiac (1-0-1) will face Michigan Lutheran at 5 p.m. Monday, April 7 at Michigan Lutheran.
