Teens charged in stolen firearms case

CASSOPOLIS — Two teens were arrested Monday in connection to a Cassopolis hardware store robbery in January, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 3 p.m. Monday, the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Cassopolis Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in a parking lot on School Street in Cassopolis. Detectives had information that the subjects in this vehicle were in possession of stolen firearms. Jacob M. Morrison, 18, of Cassopolis, and a 17-year-old male, whose name is currently being withheld, were detained and questioned. Several stolen firearms and ammunition from a break-in at Hayden & Sons Hardware Store, 125 S. Broadway St., Cassopolis, in January 2025, were recovered at the scene.
Morrison was later arrested and charged with possession of stolen firearms. The 17-year-old male was charged with breaking and entering and possession of stolen firearms and was released to his parent.
