DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac girls soccer team kicked off the season in winning fashion with a 8-0 victory over Hartford Friday.

Johanna McDonald had five goals and an assist, Sabina Sanchez-Ortega had two goals, Mia Freeman and one goal and two assists, Chloe Brewer had two assists and Alivia Bell one assist.

“We played a pretty good first game,” said Dowagiac coach Joseph Pasternak. “We moved the ball well and didn’t try to force things and let the game come to us. We could do a little better with the accuracy of our passes but the girls were doing the right things and making good decisions all game long. We just need to clean some things up. Overall I was happy with our performance today and hope to build off this game.”

Dowagiac will face Sturgis at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sturgis.
