DOWAGIAC — For the first time in nearly two decades, Dowagiac High School will be searching for a new boys basketball head coach.
After 16 years at the helm and 23 with the program, Danum Hunt has resigned as Dowagiac boys basketball coach.
“Coach Hunt’s influence extended beyond the court, positively impacting the lives of his players and the broader community,” the school district stated in a release. “We appreciate his loyalty and contributions to Dowagiac Athletics and wish him continued success in his future coaching endeavors.”
Hunt, a 1989 Benton Harbor graduate, was hired as the head coach in August 2009 after several years as an assistant. He replaced Greg Blomgren, who had taken the same position at St. Joseph High School before returning to the district as superintendent this year.
Under Hunt’s leadership, the program achieved notable success, securing four conference championships, three district championships, one regional championship and the school’s first Final Four appearance since 1984. The Chieftains finished 1-20 in 2024-25.
