NILES — The Niles-Buchanan branch of the NAACP will host its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 in the lower level of the Niles District Library, 620 E. Main St.

The meeting will feature speaker Karrah Herring, who was appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb in 2020 as Indiana’s first Chief Equity, Inclusion, and Opportunity Officer. With 15 years of experience in higher education, corporate and state government, she is a public relations and workplace culture expert. Previously, she spent nearly a decade at the University of Notre Dame, leading workplace compliance, public affairs and strategic partnerships.

A Purdue and Valparaiso Law graduate, Herring is a sought-after speaker and global seminar leader. Her numerous accolades include Indiana Lawyer’s 2024 Diversity in Law honor and IBJ Media’s Indiana 250 Most Influential Business Leaders (2022-2024). She prioritizes faith, family, and service, striving to promote civility, empathy and kindness.

Founded in 1909, the organization is an interracial endeavor striving to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The NAACP Niles chapter began in March 1942 and had been a voice for human equality by addressing local issues through advocacy and communication, as well as sought to educate members and the public on history and current concerns. The chapter was revived last year following a six-year hiatus.
