Dowagiac Museum announces 2025 Spring Lecture Series

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac Area History Museum has announced its 2025 Spring Lecture Series, kicking off at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at 201 E. Division St., with Cecil Wilson presenting “A History of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.”

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi have called the Great Lakes region their home for countless generations. Today, they reside in Southwest Michigan, where they continue to honor and preserve their cultural heritage and history. Wilson, Historic Research Specialist with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, will lead a discussion on the tribe’s historical journey and the ongoing efforts they make to safeguard their identity and traditions

The program, free for museum members and $5 for non-members, will have a capacity of 100 attendees with seating on a first-come basis.

April 9: “‘The Worst Colonel I Ever Saw’: Francis Quinn and the Battle of Shiloh,” by Bob Myers of the Historical Society of Michigan

May 7: “A History of the Cass County Courthouse,” by Ambrosia Neldon, Marketing and Communications Manager of Cass County

June 4: “Michigan Carnegie Libraries,” by Adam Oster, Community Engagement Librarian of the Library of Michigan
