SMC hosts annual Cass County Spelling Bee

DOWAGIAC — Elementary and middle school students across Cass County gathered at Southwestern Michigan College Wednesday for the annual Cass County Spelling Bee.

The spelling bee hosted on Wednesday at SMC by Heritage Southwest Intermediate School District invited spellers from fourth through eighth grade from Dowagiac Union Schools, Marcellus Community Schools, Edwardsburg Public Schools and Cassopolis Public Schools to compete in a day of competition. 

Results from the spelling bee are as follows:

Individual

First – Wyatt Lewis-8th, Edwardsburg

Second-tie – Weston Lewis-7th Edwardsburg; Owen Killarney-7th,  Dowagiac

Fourth – Evan Mikosz (7), Edwardsburg

Fifth – Stella Leighhton (7), Dowagiac
