February 26, 1939 – February 13, 2025

Jeryl “George” Spencer, 85, of Cassopolis, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 13, 2025 with his family by his side.

His life began February 26, 1939, in Cassopolis, Michigan, joining six beautiful daughters as the only son born to Hope and Murl Spencer. He had many cousins, nieces, and nephews that were a joy in his life. He also had many unofficial “adopted” children he held close to his heart.

George graduated from Cassopolis High School in 1957 and attended Michigan State University. He was very active in the Future Farmers of America and 4-H both during his youth and his children’s youth. George owned and operated his family farm for over fifty years and lived a life dedicated to family, community, and farming.

In 1972, George married Vicki Prothero and they had two children, Julie and George. George liked taking his beautiful bride out on the town, going to horse shows with Julie and watching George play sports.

George was known for his mischievous grin, good nature, and kind heart. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family, including his grand-dogs. He liked a good steak, watching sports, being with friends, and binge watching all the NCIS shows.

George will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Spencer; his son, George Spencer; sisters, Jerilynn Spencer, Judy (Randy) Uschold; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews that were a joy in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; four sisters, Joan Trossen, Joyce Spencer, Jean Spencer, Janice Daugherty; and brothers-in-law, Clyde Trossen and Jim Daugherty.

Family and friends will gather Monday, February 24, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm in Wagner Family Funerals Connelly Chapel, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.
