NILES — The City of Niles announced Wednesday it has dispatched electric crews to Orlando, Florida in preparation for restoration efforts after incoming Hurricane Milton takes out power in portions of the state.

“This coordinated effort between the Florida Municipal Electric Association, Michigan Municipal Electric Association and the American Public Power Association is a testament to local power communities’ commitment to helping others in times of need,” the city stated in a news release. “Our six employees and 30 others from municipal electric providers in Michigan are prepared to assist wherever needed, and along with our brethren return power to those areas impacted by this massive event. Municipalities dispatched are reimbursed by requesting agencies. Our thoughts are with those affected.”
