On Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 3 a.m. a brief overflow lasting approximately 15 minutes of the aeration effluent channel took place at the Dowagiac Wastewater Treatment Plant due to a piece of equipment being temporarily down for construction.
None of the approximately 5,000 gallons of water that overflowed was discharged to the river. As a precautionary measure required by law, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Cass County Health Department have been notified.
Any questions about the overflow may be directed to Dowagiac Director of Public Services Benjamin Eldridge. He can be reached at (269) 782-8200 x108, or at dpsdirector@dowagiac.org.
