Niles District Library hosts High School Art Show

NILES — Art students from Niles, Brandywine, and Cedar Lane High Schools competed in the annual Niles District Library Juried High School Art Show this month. The students’ artwork was on display for the month of March in the Eleanor and Mowitt Drew Gallery, located inside the library’s rotunda.

The show consisted of four categories: Painting, digital, drawing and mixed media. Prizes were provided by Psi lota Xi, a national charitable organization dedicated to helping others – notably in the fields of speech and hearing – and enriching the world through art, literature, and music.

Here are the top three placements in each category:

Painting

First – “X-ray” by Jessica Williamson (Brandywine); Second – “Sunset Hands” by Anna Ritchie (Brandywine); Third – “Mushclops” by Anna Ritchie (Brandywine).

Drawing

First – “Balloon Animal” by Isabella Cano-Straha (Brandywine); Second – “Close Friends” by Irie Dempsey (Niles); Third – “Untitled” by Olivia Laurita

Mixed Media

First – “Blushing” by Irie Dempsey; Second – “Untitled” by Olivia Laurita; Third – “Puppet Perfection” by Mac McHopa.

Digital

First – “We’re Dancing” by Gabby Blake (Niles); Second – “Focused” by Cheyne (Niles); Third – “Undefeated” by Caydee Sluder (Niles).
