I am writing this letter to encourage Cass County residents to vote in favor of the millage request now pending for the Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis. 

As a practicing attorney in Cass County for almost 40 years, I have had many dealings with this facility and have always found their staff to be excellent.   More importantly, my mother has been a resident since July of 2019. Although the building is an older one and definitely shows signs of “aging,” it always is clean and well-maintained. The staff members are top notch!  Every time I visit the facility I feel like the staff members treat the residents as if they were their own family members. 

I did have one story to share concerning the dedication of the staff members.  For my mother’s first Thanksgiving at the facility, I was completely blown away by participating in their annual tradition. All of the staff members put on a Thanksgiving dinner for the residents and their families.  There were tables and chairs and people everywhere having Thanksgiving dinner that was served by the staff members. Not only was a delicious meal served, but I also was left with a lifetime memory of an entire staff (more than 100 members) making sure that their residents were able to share a meal and love with their beloved family members. Truly a lifetime memory for my mother, me and my family members.

Every evening I telephone the second shift nurse to get a report on my mother’s condition for the day.  The person to whom I speak every night is always willing to take a few minutes out of their busy schedule to discuss what type of day my mother had to “keep me in the loop.” Even though this small facility is located in the “back woods” of Cass County, it definitely is a five-star performer. Apparently, I am not alone in my feelings about the professional care it provides because it has won several five-star rating awards from U.S. News and World Report.

I urge every Cass County voter to vote in favor of the millage for the Cass County Medical Care Facility in August. Thank you.
