Jan. 12, 1936 — July 17, 2020

Susie J. Lutzen, 84, of Niles, passed away at her home on Friday, July 17, 2020.

Susie was born on Jan. 12, 1936, to the late Benjamin and Eva (Ballard) Brittin.

After school Susie went on to work for Simplicity as a machine operator, was later married and had three children and retired after 32 years.

Susie was an avid bowler, enjoyed crocheting, traveling, listening to Elvis and most of all Susie loved her family. Susie suffered two immeasurable losses when, in 1979, she lost her son, Mike, and in 2014 she lost her second son, Tom. She made up for those losses in her heart by spending as much time with her daughter and grandchildren as she could.

Susie was a social butterfly and enjoyed being with people in general. She also appreciated the time she was able to spend at her condo in Florida where she could watch the ocean, relax and socialize.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael and Thomas Lutzen; grandson, Christopher Lutzen; and siblings, Donald Brittin, Mary Haase, Jack Brittin and Clarence “Cotton” Brittin.

Susie is survived by her daughter; and best friend, Karen Sherwood, of Niles; grandchildren, Scott (Spring) Lutzen, Andy (Emily Hamilton) Sherwood, Melanie Demaegd, Jason Lutzen and Angie (Josh) Eaton; great-grandchildren, Megan, Serra, Max, Avery, Leah, Lydia, Caden and Ashley; and many extended family members and friends that she considered her family.

A time of visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, and from 10 until 11 a.m. with funeral services to celebrate Susie’s life beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Brown Funeral Home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, of Niles.
