This August, Cass County residents have the opportunity to vote to continue services to older citizens through the Cass County Council on Aging.

My 18 years of volunteering for the COA has shown me how vital these programs are for Cass County seniors.

The millage proposal on the ballot provides 65 percent of the COA’s annual income. This income is critical in supporting area seniors. With these funds, the COA builds wheelchair ramps, delivers Meals on Wheels, drives seniors to out-of-county medical appointments, assists seniors with preparing and filing their tax returns and much more. These services help seniors in all parts of Cass County to maintain independence as they age.

Additionally, the COA offers programs to keep seniors active and engaged, such as a full range of fitness classes, educational opportunities, a book club, arts and crafts groups and other social outlets.

The COA is a valuable asset to people of all ages in our community.

One in four Cass County residents is over the age of 60. This large and growing group of seniors is counting on you to vote “yes” on Aug. 4 for the crucial millage for the COA.
