LA GRANGE TOWNSHIP — A Cassopolis woman was injured in a hit and run accident Monday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle personal injury traffic crash at 11:05 a.m. Monday.

The crash occurred at the intersection of M-62 and Dutch Settlement Street in LaGrange Township.

Investigation of the crash showed that a vehicle, driven by Penny Michkiewicz, 74, of Cassopolis, was stopped to turn left onto Dutch Settlement Street when she was rear-ended by another vehicle.

The driver of this vehicle then fled the scene on foot.

Michkiewicz was injured in the crash and was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital via PrideCare Ambulance.

At this time, the other driver has not been located.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and Michkiewicz was wearing a seatbelt, deputies said. The crash remains under investigation.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by PrideCare Ambulance and the Pokagon Tribal Police.
