Patrick Michael Flanagan, of Dowagiac

May 14, 1955 — June 16, 2020

Patrick Michael Flanagan, of Dowagiac, passed away on at 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, due to complications from congestive heart failure at Spectrum Health Lakeland, in St. Joseph. He was 65 years old.

Patrick, “Pat” to all his friends, was born to parents Patrick Joseph and Marilyn Flanagan (Owen) on May 14, 1955, in Dowagiac.

He grew up with seven brothers and sisters and attended Dowagiac Union High School, graduating in 1973. After graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp and served our country for seven years.

Pat married Lucille (Lucy) Beth Barton on Aug. 2, 1980, in Beaufort, SC. In 1985, the couple moved from Beaufort, South Carolina, to Fresno, California, after Pat received a work transfer.  In 1989, Pat decided on a career change and attended trade school to become an electrician. After living in Fresno, California, for nine years with Lucy and their daughter, the family moved back to Dowagiac in 1994 to be closer to relatives. He continued in his trade until his retirement in 2017.

Pat is survived by his wife, Lucy; their daughter, Deborah Christine Masterman and her husband, Timothy Lee Masterman; their three grandsons, Joshua Patrick Dzakowic, Mason Gerald Dzakowic and Timothy Lee Masterman Jr.; and Pat’s sister, Tracy Patricia Morton. He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Marilyn Flanagan; and his brother, Sean Patrick Flanagan.

The family is planning to place Pat’s ashes to rest with a Full Military funeral honors ceremony at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.

The date of the ceremony will be announced when available. A celebration of life ceremony is also being planned and will take place at a future date at the couple’s home, in Dowagiac.

Flowers, donations, and condolences may be sent to the family at 31115 Curran Beach Rd., Dowagiac, MI 49047.
