Police investigating two drive-by shootings in Dowagiac

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac Police Department is investigating two separate drive-by shootings that occurred within the city over the weekend.

The first shooting took place around 6:29 p.m. Saturday. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of James Street, as officers were advised that someone had driven by and shot several times into a residence on the street. At the scene, officers located evidence that the residence was shot.

Witnesses told police several shots were fired at the residence by unknown vehicles from the street. The residence was occupied by three people, none of whom were injured during the incident.

No other descriptions or information is available at this time, according to Director of Public Safety Steve Grinnewald.

The second shooting took place at 2:32 a.m. Sunday morning. Dowagiac police were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Maple Street. Officers were advised that several shots were fired at the residence, and once on scene, officers were able to locate evidence that the residence was shot.

At the time of the shooting, there were four people inside of the residence, and none were injured. No other descriptions or information is available at this time, Grinnewald said.

Dowagiac police believe that both incidents may be related, and they do not appear to be random acts, according to Grinnewald.

These incidents remain under investigation at this time.
