MEC responds to COVID-19

CASSOPOLIS — Although there is no such thing as “business as usual” these days, Midwest Energy and Communications continues to work to meet the needs of its customers and support its communities.

Tuesday, staff provided an update on how it is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All district service center lobbies will remain closed at least through May. However, Solutions agents are still available at (800) 492-5989.

Regular outside operations activities the week of May 11. This includes electric construction, in-home fiber internet installations and new propane tank sets. Employees will be fitted with the necessary personal protective equipment, and MEC representatives ask customers to also wear a face covering and practice safe social distancing while an employee is in the home.

In addition to business operations, MEC has leveraged its fiber network to support those who are working and learning from home without a robust internet service. Free public Wi-Fi access is now available from the parking lot at MEC Headquarters, 60590 Decatur Road, Cassopolis, and the former headquarters, 901 E. State St., Cassopolis.
