COVID-19 case numbers rise

SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN — As the calendars turned to May, COVID-19 cases continued to rise in southwest Michigan.
Since the weekend, Berrien County’s case number had jumped to 315, with an additional 174 presumed positive cases reported by the Berrien County Health Department as of 3 p.m. Tuesday. Within the county, 20 people have died from the virus, while 204 have recovered.
In Cass County, 34 positive COVID-19 cases and two deaths have been reported to date. As of Friday, 10 individuals had recovered.
In Van Buren County, 69 cases, two deaths and 15 recoveries had been reported.
Statewide, 44,397 COVID-19 cases have been reported as of Tuesday, with 4,179 deaths. As of Friday, 15,659 recoveries had been documented.
Across state lines, St. Joseph County, Indiana has seen 687 cases and 21 deaths. Elkhart County has reported 342 cases and 13 deaths.
Nationwide, more than one million COVID-19 cases have been documented. To date, the U.S. has reported 1,171,510 cases and 68,279 deaths.
