Berrien County reports one new COVID-19 death

SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN — The COVID-19 pandemic continued Wednesday, with several counties in southwest Michigan reporting increases in COVID-19 cases and Berrien County reporting one additional death.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, Berrien County reported 177 positively confirmed COVID-19 cases, up from 170 reported Tuesday, and 11 deaths up from 10. According to a map released by the Berrien County Health Department, 31 to 50 COVID-19 cases were reported in the 49120 zip code, which includes Niles. Ten to 30 cases were reported in the 49107 zip code, which includes Buchanan. Also Wednesday, Berrien County reported 101 recoveries from the disease.

Van Buren County and Cass County also reported slight increases in confirmed COVID-19 cases Wednesday.

The Van Buren/Cass County Health Department reported 36 cases in Van Buren County, up from 34 Tuesday. The department also reported two deaths and seven recoveries to date in the county.

Cass County reported 23 cases up from 22 Tuesday. The health department also reported one death and one recovery to date.

Statewide, Michigan reported 33,966 COVID-19 cases and 2,813 deaths Wednesday. The state reported that, of those cases, 3,237 had recovered.

Across stateliness, St. Joseph, Indiana had 454 confirmed cases and 10 deaths. Elkhart County had 185 cases and three deaths.
