LA GRANGE TOWNSHIP — A Dowagiac resident was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Behnke reported that at approximately 5:29 p.m. Monday, his office was called to investigate a personal injury accident that occurred at the intersection of Pokagon Highway and Dailey Road in La Grange Township.

Investigation shows that 45-year-old Dowagiac resident Gary Zimmerman was westbound on Pokagon Highway when his vehicle was struck by a southbound vehicle from Dailey Road that failed to yield the right of way.  The southbound vehicle was driven by 18-year-old Desiree Martin, of South Bend.

Zimmerman’s passenger, Tiara Zimmerman, a 39-year-old Dowagiac resident, was transported by Pride Care Ambulance to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment of her injuries.

Seatbelts were worn, and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor, according to the sheriff’s office.

This crash remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies include Central Cass Fire Department, Pride Care Ambulance and the Michigan State Police.
