Berrien, Van Buren counties see mild increase in COVID-19 cases; Cass County remains steady

SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN — Several counties in southwest Michigan reported slight increases in COVID-19 cases Tuesday.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, Berrien County reported 170 positively confirmed COVID-19 cases, up from 164 reported Monday. According to a map released by the Berrien County Health Department, 31 to 50 COVID-19 cases were reported in the 49120 zip code, which includes Niles. Ten to 30 cases were reported in the 49107 zip code, which includes Buchanan. Also Tuesday, Berrien County reported 10 deaths and 89 recoveries from the disease.

Van Buren County also reported a slight increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases Tuesday. The Van Buren/Cass County Health Department reported 34 cases, up from 33 Monday. The department also reported two deaths and seven recoveries to date.

Cass County’s numbers remained steady at 22 cases, one death and one recovery.

Statewide, Michigan reported 32,967 COVID-19 cases and 2,700 deaths Tuesday. The state reported that, of those cases, 3,237 had recovered.

Across stateliness, St. Joseph, Indiana had 442 confirmed cases and nine deaths. Elkhart County had 179 cases and three deaths.
