DETROIT — While there are currently no professional sports going on throughout the world due to the coronavirus outbreak, free agency in the National Football League is about to take off.

The Detroit Lions made its first big splash in free agency by signing former New England Patriot linebacker Jamie Collins for $30 over three years.

The signing of Collins continues a trend for former Patriot general manager Bob Quinn and former New England defensive coordinator and current Lions coach Matt Patricia.

Collins joins former Patriots Trey Flowers, Danny Amendola and Justin Coleman on the Detroit roster.

Collins is a former third-round pick by the Patriots, who was traded to Cleveland in 2016. The outside linebacker had 81 tackles, three interceptions in his career. He had a career-high seven sacks for the Browns last season.

He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2015.

Chicago Bears sign Quinn

The Chicago Bears also kicked off free agency with a signing on the defensive side of the football.

The Bears signed Robert Quinn to a five-year, $70 million contract, which has $30 million guaranteed.

Last year with the Dallas Cowboys, Quinn had 11.5 sacks. He also has played for the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins.

Shortly after the signing of Quinn, Chicago released Leonard Floyd.

Brady leaving Patriots

After months of speculation, six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady announced via social media that he will be leaving the New England Patriots after 20 seasons.

Brady’s Tweet cames one day before teams can officially begin contacting him.

Late Tuesday afternoon it was reported that Brady had come to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for $30 per year.

Brady had been linked to multiple teams, including Tennessee and Los Vegas, but those teams signed quarterbacks on Monday.

The Titans signed Ryan Tannehill to a contract extension, while the Raiders signed former Tennessee top draft pick Marcus Mariota. Terms of the deals were not released.
