State wrestling finals under way at Ford Field

DETROIT — The Michigan High School Athletic Association state individual wrestling finals are under way at Ford Field.

In Division 3, Dowagiac’s Jordan Simpson defeated R.J. Thome of Fremont 10-7 in the opening round at 103 pounds. The Chieftains’ Lamberto Paredes was pinned by Randy Pyrzewski of Gladwin in 4:27 at 160 pounds.

Also in Division 3, Brandywine’s Hunter Heath was defeated by Nicholas Dodman of Sanford Meridian 6-4 at 140 pounds.

In Division 2, Edwardsburg’s Jackson Hoover pinned Gabe Hassan of Forest Hills Eastern in 5:46 at 140 pounds. Jacob Reece defeated Matthew Middleton of Thornapple-Kellog 9-4 at 145 pounds, while Caden Reece was pinned by Jacob Lee of Lowell in 1:13 at 171.

Niles’ Mikey Robles won his opening round match at 103 with a 7-2 decision over Jacob Campbell of Allen Park. Jamison Zimmerman was defeated by Jack Parker of Spring Lake 7-4 at 112 pounds, while Ryan Franco won by technical fall (15-0) over Dawson Gessner of Gibralter Carlson at 125.

Javond Ball was pinned by Xzavier Suess of Croswell-Lexington in 3:59 at 135 pounds. Skylar Means is 1-1 at 140 pounds after being pinned by William Link of Lowell in 5:28 before receiving a bye in the first round of consolation matches.

Kade Wagley was pinned by Tyler Janssen of Coopersville in 2:33 at 145 pounds.

In Division 4, Cassopolis’ Gage Collins was defeated by Brock Nelson of LeRoy Pine River 13-4.
