Esther Pauline Rough, 83 of Berrien Springs, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, in Niles.
She was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Berrien Springs, to Heinrich (Henry) Heimbuch and Bertha Reis Heimbuch, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two children, C. Sue Freeman (Mike), of Memphis, Tennessee, and William C. Rough (Cindy), of Niles; two grandsons, Ronald A. Weinberg, of Edwardsburg, and Marcus Rough, of Niles; a granddaughter, Alyssa Rough, of Niles; a great-grandson, Logan Steven Rough, of Niles; three sisters, Ruth Dilley, of Berrien Springs, Elaine Newman, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Irene Watson, of Sterling Heights, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Elson Rough; one brother, Henry Heimbuch; and one grandson, Steven William Rough.
She attended Berrien Springs High School and was a lifelong resident of Berrien Springs. She married Charles Elson Rough on May 24, 1958, in Berrien Springs, and was happily married for 61 years. She was a loving mother and wife and enjoyed landscaping, decorating her home, playing euchre, dancing, finding a great bargain and spending time with her husband at their cabin in Fountain, Michigan. She was a cancer survivor and was a member of the American Cancer Society. She wished to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or Grace Hospice in Portage, Michigan. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with her arrangements.
