NILES — Brandywine’s 82-46 blowout over Parchment, which the Bobcats fell to earlier in the season, was one of the team’s most selfless wins all season.

All 12 players on the team contributed to the win, with Junior Kendall Chrismon Jr., leading the pack with 22 points Friday night.

“From day one, they are starting to buy in and working hard defensively,” said head coach Nathan Knapp. “They always work hard; we just don’t have the trust with each other. They are starting to build the trust and make good decisions.”

Knapp described the team as naturally athletic.

“It’s a lovely team to coach. It’s fun,” he said. “It’s hard at times when you have so many athletes. It’s just a game of basketball and everyone wants to score, but now they are starting to buy into it and sharing. It doesn’t matter about the points. It’s the end result, and they want to win.”

Also adding to the regular-season finale was senior night for Jaelen Briggs, Shane Brown, Brock Penkert, Jordan Abrams and Timothy Walker.

Knapp said, as a coach, after 16 years of senior nights, they never get easier.

“It’s one of those things where when they go, it sucks,” he said. “I had two kids that were seniors two years. It’s just like every one of them is your kid. You get close with them, and you don’t want to see them go, but you see the growth in them.”

Knapp said he felt his five seniors shined on the court.

In the Bobcats’ victory over the Panthers, the seniors contributed 25 points.

Earlier in the season, Parchment had beaten Brandywine 69-65, ending the Bobcats’ unbeaten season.

“We were up 29-12 in the first quarter when we played them the first time,” Knapp said. “Then they outscored us 23-11 in the second quarter. They ended up taking it to us, and we fell apart. We lost to them in overtime.”

To prepare his team for the battle of the Panthers, Knapp encouraged his players to keep working and stay focused.

“You can’t take things for granted,” he said.

Leading up to the game, the Bobcats also discussed moving beyond last week’s 54-44 loss to Buchanan.

“Buchanan is a good team. They are tall, and they worked their butts off against us,” Knapp said. “We didn’t shoot very well in their gym, and the kids walked out of there a little upset, and we went to Gobles.”

Knapp said Gobles gave the Bobcats everything they could handle earlier in the week. Brandywine ended up winning by three points.

The Bobcats will travel to Benton Harbor on Tuesday to face the No. 1 team in Division 2. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

“Benton Harbor is a good team, and we don’t face too many Class C teams in the state tournament like that,” Knapp said. “That will get you ready for big games. If we go over there and compete and work, that will be a good thing for us.”

Brandywine will end its regular season with on Thursday against Berrien Springs with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Then it is district time.

The Brandywine girls basketball team capped off a 19-1 regular season with a 52-12 win over visiting Parchment Friday night.

The Bobcats led 11-3 after one quarter, and then held the Panthers to nine points the rest of the game.

Zakiyyah Abdullah led all scorers with 14 points. Malikiyyah Abdullah and Kennedy Byrd both had nine points.
