Brandywine, Niles girls pick up division victories

NILES — The Brandywine and Niles girls basketball teams picked up division victories Friday night.

The Bobcats remained undefeated with a 75-33 win over visiting Parchment in BCS Athletic Conference Red Division clash.

Niles headed north to knock off Lakeshore 70-23 in SMAC West Division action.

At Brandywine, Zakiyyah Abdullah scored a game-high 21 points as the Bobcats improved to 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the Red Division.

Brandywine also got 14 points from Alexis Rhodes and 11 points from Kennedy Byrd.  Cortney Bates added 12 points.

The Bobcats are back in action tonight as they travel to Fennville for a non-conference contest.

At Stevensville, Niles’ Alycia Patterson scored 22 points, had five steals and four assists as the Vikings improved to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the SMAC West.

Amara Palmer added 16 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists. Morgan Warren finished with 11 points.

Niles heads to Kalamazoo Central for a SMAC non-divisional game on Tuesday.

In boys basketball action Friday night, Brandywine suffered its first loss of the season as Parchment upset the Bobcats 69-65 in overtime.

The Panthers outscored the Bobcats 8-5 in the extra session for the victory.

Caleb Byrd scored 15 points to lead Brandywine, which also got 14 points from Kendall Chrismon and 12 points from Jaelen Briggs.

Brandywine is now 9-1 overall and 3-1 in the BCS Red Division.

The Bobcats travel to Berrien Springs Friday night.

At Stevensville, Niles led 29-24 at halftime against undefeated Lakeshore, but was unable to maintain the momentum.

The Lancers outscored the Vikings 47-24 in the second half to pull away to the victory.

Cerious Wilson led the Vikings with 15 points, while Mike Gilcrese added 10 points. Adrian Thomas finished with nine points.

Niles hosts Kalamazoo Central in a SMAC non-divisional game Tuesday night.
