VOLINA TOWNSHIP — Two 17-year-olds were involved in a personal injury crash on Marcellus Highway at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, according to Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate the crash near Lawrence Road in Violinia Township, Cass County.

A 17-year-old Cassopolis resident was turning into a private driveway when he was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a second 17-year-old Cassopolis resident. The collision caused both vehicles to go off the roadway and strike trees, officials said.

The first driver was transported to Three Rivers Hospital for treatment of injuries. Officials believed that both parties were wearing safety belts, and alcohol and other intoxicating substances do not appear to be factors.

The case remains under investigation, officials said.
