THREE OAKS — For Brandywine wrestling, victories do not usually come by just riding a bus and showing up.

Wednesday night was the exception in Brandywine’s opening night of the BCS Athletic Conference season, as it only had three contested matches against host River Valley and Benton Harbor, as both teams were unable to fill their line-ups.

The Bobcats defeated the Mustangs 72-6 and the Tigers 66-6.

The highlight of the night was senior Mathew Cox as he claimed his 100th and 101st career victories uncontested. The two-time regional qualifier was humbled and satisfied to accomplish this milestone.

“I give a lot of credit to my dad [assistant coach, Ricky Cox] for always pushing me to reach my goals,” Cox said. “This means a lot to me — to get a record my dad aimed for when he wrestled in high school, and I’m just really happy I could do it for him.”

In the matches that were contested, the Bobcats went 2-1.

Drake Heath pinned Alaric Freehling in 1:37 at 103-pounds, and his brother, Hunter Heath, pinned AJ Forker in 3:35 at 145-pounds against River Valley. Jesse Marlin was pinned at 160-pounds against Benton Harbor in its only match.

Winning twice by forfeit on the evening, besides Cox, were Matheiu Veach (112), Aaron Lauri (119), Alexis Cox (130), Gage Hoskin (152), Ivory McCullough (171), Ben McKee (189), Cruz Sanchez (215), and Cael Vansandt (285).

Brandywine is back in action Saturday for the Bronson Super Duals beginning at 9 a.m.
