EDWARDSBURG — Bruce Nurton, a board member of the Michiana Metro Lighthouse Chorus, recently presented a check in the amount of $2,275 to the Edwardsburg Food Pantry.  The donation was part of the proceeds from the Lighthouse Chorus annual food bank fundraiser, Magic of Harmony, hosted this past fall. The fundraiser raised more than $9,000, with the net proceeds being donated to six different food pantries in the area. The other food pantries are in Buchanan, Berrien Springs, Niles, Three Oaks and Benton Harbor. Chorus President Jay Wort noted that these donations were made possible through the support of area businesses that advertised in the fundraiser program, as well as supporters throughout Michiana who attended the fundraiser. The chorus also hosted a food drive the evening of the performance, during which more than 225 pounds of canned goods were collected.

Based in Niles, the Lighthouse Chorus is a men’s a cappella chorus that sings primarily in the barbershop style of music. Using contemporary arrangements, the chorus performs a variety of music, including jazz, rock, patriotic, spirituals and ballads. They perform throughout southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana, singing on stages, in parks, on sidewalks and in churches.  They often give back to their communities by hosting fundraisers for local organizations, officials said.

The group is always looking for new members and invites anyone who is interested to visit a rehearsal on Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 9 S. Fourth St., Niles.
