Sports teams heading back to work Saturday

NILES — Christmas break is coming to an end, and area sports teams are ready to kick off the 2020 portion of their seasons.

Several teams will be in action on Saturday as Edwardsburg, Brandywine and Niles will compete in wrestling tournaments, while the Vikings’ bowling and basketball teams will also have contests.

The Edwardsburg wrestling team is heading to Grand Haven, while Brandywine heads to Hillsdale, and Niles to Linden.

The Vikings were supposed to compete in a tournament last Saturday at Eaton Rapids, but it was canceled.

The Niles bowling team will head to South Haven for a mixed doubles tournament.

The Vikings’ boys basketball team will cap off the day with a non-conference game at Berrien Springs. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Beginning on Tuesday, the remainder of high school sports teams head back into action.

• Niles boys basketball @ New Buffalo, 6:30 p.m.

• Dowagiac boys basketball @ Lakeshore, 7 p.m.

• Decatur @ Cassopolis girls basketball, 7 p.m.

• Cassopolis boys basketball @ Decatur, 7 p.m.

• Edwardsburg girls basketball @ Mattawan, 7:15 p.m.

• Mattawan @ Edwardsburg boys basketball, 7:15 p.m.

• Lakeshore @ Brandywine girls basketball, 6 p.m.

• Fennville @ Brandywine boys basketball, 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday:

• Niles wrestling @ St. Joseph, 6 p.m.

• Dowagiac wrestling @ South Haven, 6 p.m.

• Edwardsburg wrestling @ South Haven, 6 p.m.

• Buchanan @ Niles girls basketball, 7 p.m.
