Phillip L. Mitchell, 77, of Dowagiac, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, in Kalamazoo.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, with Pastor Stacey Wilder officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Phillip was born May 12, 1942, to Howard and Edith (Noble) Mitchell in New Troy, Michigan.
He was a proud Marine, who enlisted immediately following high school. He proudly served his country from 1959 to 1965. His Marine life took him to Okinawa, Japan as well as to the Philippines. On June 12, 1965, he married the love of his life, Georgiane Sullivan. Phillip worked as a factory worker for many years at Rudy Manufacturing and Sunstrand Heat Transfer. Phillip loved to spend his free time fishing and having breakfast at Mr. Wahoo’s in Dowagiac. Most of all, he loved his family, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Phillip is survived by his siblings, Mary Ann (Bill) Brandys, Marian (George) Stinebaugh, Beverly Parnell, Diane Warr and Tom (Cheryle) Mitchell; many nieces and nephews, as well as special friends and dear neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Georgiane Mitchell; siblings, George Mitchell and Martha Hoadley; and his parents.
