Brandywine wrestlers drops pair

NILES — The Brandywine wrestling team got off to a rocky start in its season opener after dropping a pair of duals to visiting Bronson and Constantine on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats (0-2) are without two-time regional qualifying senior Steven Kendall after he suffered a shoulder injury that will keep him sidelined possibly for the remainder of the season. The young Bobcats start five freshmen and only two seniors in their line-up.

While the team is on a learning curve, one thing that remains consistent is the ability of their junior, Hunter Heath, who defeated a pair of returning state qualifiers.

Heath, a 2019 All-Stater in Division 4, won by technical fall over Arician Smith of Bronson 15-0, and defeated a Division 3 All-Stater in Gage Ensign of Constantine 4-1.

Brandywine will return to action Saturday as it travels to Vicksburg for a team tournament. Wrestling is slated to start at 9 a.m.
