PAW PAW — Host Paw Paw may have scored first, but Edwardsburg had the last laugh as the Eddies won 44-14 last Friday night.
With the win, Edwardsburg won its eighth Wolverine Conference championship in 10 years and locked up its fourth undefeated season in five years.
Paw Paw jumped out to the early 7-0 advantage, but a pair of second-quarter touchdowns gave the Eddies’ a 14-7 halftime lead.
It was all Eddies (9-0) in the second half. Edwardsburg scored 24 points in the third quarter to lead 38-14 heading into the final 12 minutes of the regular season.
Mac Gaideski had a pair of touchdowns for Edwardsburg which also got scores from Dillion Hursh, Conner Nelson, Logan McColley and Cayden Calhoun.
Edwardsburg coach Kevin Bartz was happy that his team faced a tough challenge in Paw Paw Friday night.
“We needed to get challenged physically because we hadn’t all year,” he said. “Paw Paw is a good, strong team that had good skilled kids. We needed that, and that is our style of football. We try to wear teams down physically.”
