KALAMAZOO — The Niles JV volleyball team captured the Kalamazoo Loy Norrix Tournament on Saturday.

The Vikings were 3-0-3 on the day as they defeated Parchment 25-13, 25-15, defeated Dowagiac 2-22, 25-8 and Lakeshore 25-20, 18-25 and 15-11.

Niles split with Lakeshore 13-25 and 25-19, Three Rivers 26-24, 27-29 and Loy Norrix 25-12, 23-25.

“Today was a very intense up and down day for us,” said Niles coach Sammee Schaller. “We split all three of our pool play games, which gave us a No. 3 seed into the tournament. In tournament play, we stayed undefeated and came out as tournament champions.”

Schaller said in pool play, her team struggled with consistency. That was not the case for the final three matches.

“In tournament play, we all were on the same page, that we could not mess around anymore and need to go undefeated,” she said. “Our game plan today was off, and the fact that we were able to find consistency and stay focused throughout the day was huge for us. We pushed playing smart and making less errors, and overall that got us to come out as champions. I am so incredibly proud of this team. This is our fourth tournament championship, and those girls deserve every bit of it.”

The Vikings are now 25-10-7 on the season. Niles hosted Kalamazoo Central in a SMAC crossover match Wednesday night.
