CASSOPOLIS — The Cass District Library is working to register voters by election day.

Citizens of Michigan who will be 18 by election day Tuesday, Nov. 5 can register to vote at the Cass District Library on M-62 in Cassopolis during regular hours. Local township, municipal and county clerks can also register voters.

Felons can vote if not serving a jail sentence and if they are registered to vote in Michigan.

It is not necessary to have a photo ID to vote in Michigan. Registered voters without a photo ID will be required to sign an affidavit on the back of their voter application at the polls and can vote a regular ballot. If not listed in the poll book, the voter may be issued a provisional ballot.  Every registered voter is allowed to vote.

Absentee voting is available to everyone who is registered. Residents can obtain an absentee voter application at the Cass District Library or from local clerk, or download an application on michigan.gov/vote. Vote by mail or vote in person by appointment at the township or municipal clerk’s office, until election day. Permanent absentee voter list application cards are also available at the library for Cass County residents.  Completing the card will insure a voter will receive an absentee voter application from the clerk before every election. It can be used to apply for an absentee ballot but also allows for in person voting at the polls on election day if a voter so chooses.

Straight ticket voting is allowed.  A voter can vote straight ticket by checking the party box.  However, a voter can vote straight ticket and also vote for candidates of other parties.  Check the party box and vote for candidates of other parties.

Every vote counts, said Cass District Library officials.

Cass County clerks’ contact information and polling place locations can also be found on michigan.gov/vote and on a county’s website.
