Niles senior wins Berrien County championship

BENTON HARBOR — Niles senior Kaylee Thompson successfully defended her Berrien County Meet title at Lake Michigan College on Saturday.

Thompson ran a time of 20:02 to win her second county crown.

Kayla Trueblood also cracked the top 10 with a time of 21:57 as the Vikings finished fifth overall.

Bridgman won the girls title with 54 points, while Lakeshore and Berrien Springs tied for second with 79 points.

St. Joseph was fourth (87) and Niles fifth (95).

Berrien Springs won the boys county title with 33 points to easily outdistance runner-up St. Joseph, which finished with 77 points.

Buchanan placed seventh, and Brandywine 11th.

Niles did not have enough boys to post a team score.

The Vikings’ Adam Shepherd was third overall with a time of 17:17.

Buchanan’s Walker Barz finished fifth with a time of 17:28.

Dowagiac cross country

The Chieftains’ meet at Edwardsburg scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.
