DOWAGIAC — Dowagiac police are currently investigating a vehicle theft and unlawful credit card use that took place at the Dowagiac Shell station early Tuesday morning.
According to Director of Public Safety Steve Grinnewald, a vehicle was stolen from the Shell station around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Credit cards that were taken from the car were found to have been used at locations in Sister Lakes.
After asking for the public’s help on social media identifying a man caught on security cameras using the credit cards, the department was able to identify and arrest the man on charges of unlawful credit card use around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Around the same time, the stolen vehicle was recovered from a field in the Sister Lakes area.
Though he could not give more information at this time, Grinnewald said he believes the man who used the credit cards is not the same individual that stole the vehicle from the Shell station.
The department is continuing its investigation into the incident, Grinnewald said.
The Dowagiac Police Department requested that anyone with information regarding this case contact the Dowagiac Police Department at (269) 782-9743 or the Cass County Tip Line at (800) 462-9328.
