Motorcyclist killed on US-12

PORTER TOWNSHIP — A 25-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on US-12 near Baldwin Prairie in Porter Township Saturday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 4:25 p.m. Saturday. Officers learned that while exiting a driveway on Baldwin Prairie, a 16-year-old driver crashed with a motorcycle. The collision caused the motorcycle’s driver, Tyler Hershberger, of Three Rivers, to be ejected from his motorcycle.

Seat belts were worn and Hershberger was wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies include SEPSA/Porter Fire and EMS and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Two arrested for meth

PORTER TOWNSHIP — Two people were arrested following a search warrant Thursday in Porter Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

During the search warrant in the 69000 block of Hazel Street in Porter Township, officers recovered approximately 25 grams of methamphetamine, as well as methamphetamine paraphernalia.

The 47-year-old homeowner and a friend, a 36-year-old male from Three Rivers, were arrested at the scene and charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. The homeowner was also charged with maintaining a drug house.

Names have not been released, pending arraignment.

Both suspects were lodged at the Cass County Jail and scheduled to be arraigned in the Fourth District Court in Cass County.
