Woman rescued from water near Pucker Street Dam

NILES CHARTER TOWNSHIP – Emergency crews successfully completed a water rescue Wednesday morning.
At 10:03 a.m. Niles Township Fire Department and Niles City Fire Department helped a woman struggling in the Dowagiac River above Pucker Street Dam. Berrien County Dispatch received the 911 call reporting a female struggling in the Dowagiac River, above the Pucker Street Dam, in Niles Township.
Emergency personnel found the 34-year-old woman from Chicago in the water upstream from the dam, clinging to its side.
Personnel were able to pull the female to safety within approximately 25 minutes of call time, according to staff at the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman had been tubing with friends along the river when she became trapped along the dam. She had been wearing a personal flotation device, was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
