BERRIEN COUNTY — Berrien County residents are being warned of a mail scam that has been reported in the area.

Berrien County Treasurer Bret Witkowski is warning property owners in Berrien County that there is a scam going around where people receive a letter in the U.S. Mail stating that “property seizure is imminent.” In the letter, property owners are asked to call a toll-free number. The letter suggests that property seizure is imminent if the property owner does not call the stated number and pay the balance of the lien over the phone.

Witkowski suggests that anyone in Berrien County who receives the letter should ignore the letter.

Residents are reminded to never provide any banking information over the phone to an unknown party, Wikowski said.
