Bobcats’ Gouin first team Division 3 All-State

NILES — Sophomore Gabe Gouin, of Brandywine, has been named Division 3 first team All-State by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.
The sophomore outfielder hit .441 with six doubles, two triples and 16 RBIs. He also stole 40 bases for Brandywine. Defensively, Gouin had a fielding percentage of .983 with 57 put-outs and just one error.
“Gabe had a tremendous year,” said Brandywine coach David Sidenbender. “Being a sophomore and second year on varsity makes his performance impressive, but what makes it even better is the fact he only played a third of a year last year because of a broken hand. So, experience-wise, he’s still very young, so he has a lot of room to grow.”
Buchanan catcher Dedrick Adkerson earned honorable mention All-State honors in Division 3.
Senior Jonah Sibley has been named Division 2 second-team All-State. Sibley, who was named as a utility player,
“Jonah Sibley had an outstanding year hitting and pitching,” said Edwardsburg coach A.J. Gaideski. “Jonah also made the Michigan East/West All-State game that will be played in Comerica Park in Detroit.”
Sibley hit .417 with 17 doubles, a home run and 43 RBIs. He was 8-1 on the mound with an ERA of 0.83 and 80 strikeouts.
In Division 4, Decatur’s Jakob Southworth was named first-team All-State as a pitcher after leading the Raiders to the Division 4 state championship game.
Teammate Hunter Slavings was named first-team as a catcher, while River Valley’s Matthew Schmidt and Wil Korbel earned a spot as an infielder and an outfielder respectively. Slavings is a sophomore, and Schmidt and Korbel are juniors.
The Raider’s Ben Cerven earned second-team All-State as an infielder. Cerven is a junior.
