Old Fashion Fourth of July party slated

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The History Center at Courthouse Square in Berrien Springs, in partnership with the village Berrien Springs and the Berrien Springs Community Library, will host an Old Fashion Fourth of July Celebration and Ice Cream Social. The July 4 event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The day is set to include blacksmith demonstrations, log cabin living, a concert by the Pipestone Irregulars on the Jailhouse Plaza, storytelling by Stanley Maxwell in the garden at the Berrien Springs Community Library, hopscotch, crafts and an ice cream social.
Also included is a performative stump speech of Warren G. Harding the 29th president of the U.S., and speeches by local elected officials, such as State Representative Brad Paquette and State Sen. Kim LaSata.
Food vendors will be present at the event. Picnic tables will be placed around the property at the History Center at Courthouse Square.
The event will end at 3:30 p.m. with a history of the Old Rugged Cross Church and hymn. Then a parade will follow at 4 p.m.
Parking for those attending the event is available at Sylvester and Mars Elementary Schools, on Sylvester Avenue.
The event is underwritten by the Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services and the Heritage Chapel.
