Niles has two different draws for districts

NILES — The Niles softball and baseball teams got very different draws for the Division 2 district tournament in South Haven, which begins Tuesday.

The Viking softball team drew a bye and will face the winner of the Lakeshore-Edwardsburg pre-district game. Niles will play in the second semifinal at approximately 12:30 p.m. in South Haven.

On the other side of the bracket, Dowagiac will host Benton Harbor on Tuesday with the winner moving on to the 10 a.m. semifinals against host South Haven.

The Viking (4-16) baseball team will face Dowagiac in their pre-district game on Tuesday. The Chieftains (10-14) will host the game at 4:30 p.m. at Rotary Park.

The winner moves on to the semifinals to face two-time defending state champion Lakeshore in the second semifinal at approximately 12:30 p.m.

In the other half of the bracket, perennial powerhouse Edwardsburg will face host South Haven at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the pre-district game. The winner faces Benton Harbor in the 10 a.m. semifinals.

Both championship games are scheduled for 3 p.m.

Division 3

Arch rivals Brandywine and Buchanan face each other in the Division 3 pre-district baseball contest Tuesday at 5 p.m. a Constantine High School.

The winner advances to face the host Falcons in the 10 a.m. semifinal on June 1.

Berrien Springs and Centreville will play in the noon semifinals. The championship game is set for 2 p.m.

In Division 3 softball, Buchanan faces Berrien Springs at Constantine in the pre-district game on Tuesday. The winner advances to the 10 a.m. semifinal against Centreville.

Brandywine will take on host Constantine in the 12:30 p.m. semifinal.
