NILES — The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

Monday, May 20
• 6 to 7 p.m. — Tween Game Night
This activity is ideal for tweens ages 9 to 12. There will be XBox and board games out, as well as art and crafts supplies. Snacks provided.
• 7 p.m. — Happy Destiny Support Group
The purpose of A.A. group meetings is for members to share their experience, strength and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and to help others recover from alcoholism. Open meetings are available to anyone interested in the program or recovery.
Tuesday, May 21
• 10:30 a.m. — Passport Pals
Each week, there will be books, songs, crafts and other surprises relating to the country of the month. Participants can get their passport stamped.
• 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Read Around the County
This is a free literacy event for young children. Those interested can join Tara Hunsberger, the library youth services team leader, and other fun readers down at Riverfront Park amphitheater. Have a seat on the grass and hear many fun stories. This program is in conjunction with Berrien RESA and Berrien County Libraries.
• 1 to 2:30 p.m. — Senior Seminars
The Senior Seminars Series, in conjunction with 1st Source Bank and Halbritter Wickens Funeral Services, is a monthly series of speakers outlining topics on aging. Coffee and cookies will be provided. All those present will be entered into a door prize drawing. This free program does not require pre-registration. This month’s topic is What Can I Shred and What Should I Keep?
• 4:30 p.m. — NDL Board Meeting
These meetings take place on the third Tuesday of the month monthly and are open to the public, the meetings are hosted monthly on third Tuesdays in the Anne Frese Board Room. There is an opportunity for public comment at each meeting.
• 6 p.m. — STEM Stars
This activity is ideal for those ages 6-12. The teacher, Meg, will show people a different STEM topic. This program includes a read-aloud and a science, technology, engineering or math project to work on.
Wednesday, May 22
• 9:30 a.m. — Squealers
For babies birth to 18 months, this lapsit program for babies and their caregivers features: a fingerplay, song, board book, and 10 minutes of baby play and bubbles.
• 10 a.m. — Squeakers
This activity is ideal for children ages 18 months to 3 years. This transitional story time is for little ones who are in the in-between baby and toddler stage. This will be a short story time with one book, a finger play, and a song. The program will end with bubbles. This activity works on skills like sitting quietly, listening to a story independently, and following directions.
• 10:30 a.m. — Squigglers
This activity is for children ages 18 months to 5 years. This story time program is structured like the beginning of a preschool class. There will be a calendar, letter of the day and a color song, with two books and music and movement.
• 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime
This activity is ideal for children ages 3 and up. This story time features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet, and a craft.
• 1 to 4 p.m. — MI Works!
Michigan Works! will be at the library to assist job seekers every other Wednesday. Talent Development Specialists can help people register for unemployment, evaluate their strengths and skills, edit or help update their resume, sharpen their interview skills and more.
• 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Video Game Dialogues
This activity is like a book club for video games. Participants 17 years and older will play a designated game each month, then attend an evening with fellow gamers to discuss their experiences with the storyline and gameplay. Games will be made available to play on during Adult Game Days on the second Saturday of each month.
• 7 p.m. — Happy Destiny Support Group
Open A.A. meetings are available to anyone interested in the program or recovery.
Thursday, May 23
• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime
This activity is for children ages 3 and up. This story time features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet, and a craft.
• 1 to 4:30 p.m. — American Mahjong
Volunteers are available weekly to teach people how to play Mahjong.
• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Teen Time
There will be games, books and a place to study in the teen department. Teens ages 12 to 19, are always welcome to come and hang out anytime, but during teen time, there will be snacks.
• 6 p.m. — Chips and Chapters
This is a new, read-aloud story time. Every Thursday, Tara Hunsberger will read aloud from a chapter book while participants eat chips and follow along.
• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Passports and Pajamas
This is an activity for all ages and abilities. It includes world traveling through stories, music, and a craft, all while wearing our pajamas.
• 6:30 p.m. — Something Old, Something New: Inventing the American Wedding
This is an overview of wedding customs and traditions, based on the Daughter’s of the American Revolution’s Museum’s 2004 exhibit.
Friday, May 24
• 10 a.m. to noon — TOPS
Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) is a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support group and wellness education organization. New members are welcome.
• 1 to 3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches
People can bring their yarn or sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while they chat and work. Rookies are welcome. David Hollister, the teacher, will help to provide instructions. A few loaner tools are available to beginners.
Saturday, May 25
• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Gamer Space
Gamers are invited to bring a game or try one from the “Library of Things.” The library will provide the tables and chairs.
