Jayne E. Dunham, 79, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, in Brentwood at Niles.

Jayne was born on July 20, 1939, in Lawrence, Michigan, to the late Lyle and Edna (Carroll) Dunham.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Ronald and Richard Dunham and her twin sister Joyce.

Jayne is survived by her niece Christine Dunham Phillips, nephews; Sean Dunham, Daniel Dunham and James Dunham. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gina Dunham and many lifelong friends.

Jayne graduated from Niles High School in 1957. She graduated from Western Michigan with a degree in teaching. She taught for 37 years. Jayne retired from Decatur Public Schools in 2001.

Jayne loved all animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed all sports. Jayne was a big fan of Notre Dame athletics and the Chicago Cubs. She was an avid reader. As a teacher, Jayne enjoyed traveling during the summer, especially to Ireland. Jayne was a member of Western Michigan University Alumni Association. She was a humanitarian. Jayne believed in peace and justice for everyone. She was a member of Amnesty International and the Humane Society.

Jayne will always be remembered for her light-hearted sarcasm and quick wit!

A special ‘thank you’ to the staff at Brentwood for their exceptional care of Jayne.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on May 11, 2019, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 219 South State Street, Niles.

Memorial Donations may be made to Alzheimer’s research at Brentwood.
