Elizabeth Slabaugh, 89, of Dowagiac, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Cass County Medical Care Facility.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until noon Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. A graveside service will follow at Keeler Cemetery, with Pastor Boyd Saylor officiating. Memorials may be made in c/o Joseph Slabaugh. Elizabeth was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Coulterville, Illinois, to Roy and Ruth (Wagster) Carmichael. On Jan. 13, 1968, she married Joseph Slabaugh Jr. Elizabeth worked for Dynac Corporation in St. Joseph as a trim press operator and later worked for Sealed Power in Dowagiac. Elizabeth also worked in Home Health Care for many years with the Cass County Council on Ageing. In her spare time, she enjoyed cross stitch, bingo, traveling, gardening and going to the casino. Most of all, she was a mom to everyone and loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Joseph (Tammy) Slabaugh III; daughter, Carol (Johnny) Tackitt; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Carmichael and Jack Carmichael; sisters, Jerry Fae and Lou Okay; daughter-in-law, Judy Hankins; and son-in-law, Fred Deuel.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Mark Hankins, Bill Hankins, Jim Hankins; daughter, Royce Deuel; sisters, Zelda and Maxine; brothers, Jim, Ernest and Raymond.
