NILES — The Brandywine tennis team beefed up its non-conference schedule this season.
The Bobcats faced its strongest competition to date last Saturday as they competed in the Kalamazoo Christian Invitational at Kalamazoo College.
The host Comets won the tournament championship with 55 points, while Brandywine was second with 49 points.
Calvin Christian (42), Battle Creek Harper Creek (34) and Comstock (30) rounded out the top five finishers.
Also competing were Lansing Catholic (29), Kalamazoo Loy Norrix (26) and Berrien Springs (9).
Winning individual championships for the Bobcats were Kimberly Solloway at No. 3 singles, Maigon Conrad and Ava Moody at No. 1 doubles, Katie Stratton and Caitlin Stanner at No. 3 doubles, as well as, Mackenzie Jones and Destiny Patrolia at No. 4 doubles.
Carrigon Duffield and Alysa Marlin were the runners-up at No. 2 doubles.
“Four champions and one runner-up shows how hard we competed in less than ideal conditions,” said Brandywine coach Joe Marazita. “We had to pull No. 1 singles player Megan Schmidt (undefeated) due to rolling her ankle while she was winning in her first match or we might have won the whole thing.”
Marazita was also pleased with his No. 3 doubles team.
“Katie and Caitlin only last one game all day at third doubles,” he said. “With only three weeks left in our regular season, we seem to be peaking at the right time.”
