NILES — Officials from the Niles Community School District will host an open house to display a new adult education center, created in partnership with the Niles District Library.

The open house will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Niles District Library.

Previously housed in Westside Administrative Center, the adult education center will now be located in the lower level of the Niles District Library. The Niles Board of Education meeting will take place during the open house, at 6 p.m.

Through collaboration between the district and the library, the district aims to use the center to provide accessible, visible and supportive services in a central location. The program is connected with Michigan Works! Association and Jobs for Life specialists at the library. The social work program in the library and various events for children will also provide wraparound support services to adults enrolled in courses.

The center opened March 1 and enrollment is open to any adult in Michigan striving to complete their high school degree or receive their general education diploma, said officals. More than 100 students are enrolled in the 2018-19 academic term.
