NILES — Cool and breezy conditions did not hinder the Edwardsburg soccer team from having a hot second half against host Niles Tuesday night.

The Eddies scored three second-half goals en route to a 5-3 non-conference victory over the Vikings.

Despite being young, Edwardsburg is now 2-0 on the season.

The Eddies scored their goals in bunches, a product of youth, according to coach Sean Jesse.

“We are very inexperienced,” Jesse said following the victory. “Technically, between graduation and those who did not come back, we lost seven starters. We ride emotions. Once we scored one, you could kind of see it picked up, and we poured it on a little bit more. Once they scored, we had some lows. That is something I definitely want to work out before the end of the season.”

Hannah Coles had a hat trick (three goals) for the Eddies, while Macy Laubach and Maddie LaPierre each had a goal and an assist.

“Macey Laubach is a freshman who has a lot of skill,” Jesse said. “She is allowing us to be successful right now with the inexperience that we have.”

Niles got a pair of goals from Grace Florkowski, while Cami Patterson had the other goal.

“We fell behind early in the match,” said Niles coach Abel Fonseca. “In the second half, we came out flat and the Eddies put up two early goals.”

Edwardsburg goalkeeper Gracie Wilson had a relatively quiet night between the pipes as she finished with five saves.

Niles played a pair of keepers.

Skylar Brawley finished with eight saves, while Renee Franco had five stops in the net for the Vikings, who are now 1-1-1 overall.

Niles was right back in action Wednesday as it traveled to Three Rivers for another non-conference match.

The Vikings host Mattawan on Thursday night.

The Eddies return to the pitch today as they travel to St. Joseph for a non-league match set to start at 6:30 p.m.
